Follicle Stimulation Programme For Senescent Hair Loss

ABOUT FSP

FSP (Follicle Stimulation Program) is the brainchild of John Cook, founder of Trichovedic, Certified Trichologist, hairdresser and product formulator. John noticed during his mid-fifties that his hair was thinning quite markedly and when wet his scalp was clearly visible. His wife had been cutting his hair for thirty years and he was fed up with her telling him that he didn’t have the head of hair he used to have.

FSP was about to be born. John was suffering a classic case of senescent hair loss, the general thinning of both hair diameter and density as we grow older. We have the maximum number of scalp hairs at birth, some 1,100 per square centimetre. This is down to around 800 by the age of one, reducing to 600 by fifteen and 500 from thirty onwards and then often thinning progressively. It is thought that as we age an increasing number of follicles cease to produce hair, resulting in a decrease in follicular density.

Another factor that can affect both hair diameter and its growth rate as we age is a fibrosis or hardening of the collagen structure of the follicle. This process can compromise blood flow to the follicle resulting in diminished and less vigorous hair growth. With decades of experience as a Trichologist and a lifelong fascination with the hair and scalp, John set about researching ingredients that could slow or reverse the hardening of the collagen structure of the follicle and invigorate the cell metabolism rate in the Dermal Papilla zone in the lower area of the follicle. Almost ten years on and with a daily application of FSP, John’s hair diameter and density is markedly improved and although not quite back to the head of hair he had in his twenties, it is vastly thicker than in his mid-fifties.

KEY INGREDIENTS

KOPEXIL (2-4 Diamino Pyrimidine-3-Oxide) is a similar compound to Minoxidil but without the possible side effects (scalp irritation, redness, itching). Kopexil inhibits Lysyl Hydroxylase, an enzyme participating in the maturation and hardening of the collagen structure of the hair follicle. Through the softening and improvement of elasticity to this collagen structure, microcapillary blood flow to the follicle is enhanced allowing stronger and more vigorous hair growth, particularly in follicles that are becoming compromised.

Clinical Trials have demonstrated that Kopexil (2-4 Diamino Pyrimidine-3-Oxide) preserves and strengthens hair fibres. In a Trial involving over 100 men, it was shown to slow hair loss after 3 weeks and maintain an additional 8% of hair in the growth (anagen) phase after 6 weeks.

GP4G (Artemia Plankton Extract) works at a cellular level in the follicle to stimulate and energise hair growth. GP4G acts as a metabolic promoter and stimulates cell metabolism in the Dermal Papilla zone in the lower area of the hair follicle allowing stronger and more rapid hair growth. Laboratory tests have demonstrated that GP4G can stimulate cell viability and increase the rate at which hair grows. Kopexil in combination with GP4G provides a dynamic new approach for the management of Senescent Hair Loss.

BROAD SPECTRUM HERBAL EXTRACT COMPLEX

A potent combination of herbal extracts have been incorporated into FSP to complement the functions of Kopexil and GP4G. Although FSP has been specifically formulated to manage Senescent Hair Loss and it’s specific causes, FSP may be useful in treating other types of hair loss.

Empirical evidence has shown some success in treating Telogen effluvium, Alopecia Areata, Androgenic Alopecia and post-chemotherapy hair loss. In Androgenic Alopecia (hereditary male pattern thinning/hair loss) the enzyme 5-alpha reductase converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which is responsible for the hair loss. FSP uses several natural herbal extracts which have exhibited DHT inhibiting characteristics and include Serrulata Fruit Extract (Saw Palmetto), Urtica Dioica (Nettle Extract), Caffeine, Camellia Sinensis Extract (Green Tea), Tussilago Farfara Leaf Extract (Coltsfoot), Achillea Milefolium Extract (Yarrow).

The FSP formulation also incorporates a combination of herbal extracts to stimulate faster, stronger hair growth by stimulating the scalp and microcapillary blood circulation to the follicle and include Vitis Vinifera Seed Extract (Grape), Oleic Acid, Centella Asiatica Extract (Gotu Kola), Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary Oil), Salvia Officinalis Leaf Extract (Sage), Betula Alba Juice and Leaf Extract (White Birch). Two key herbal extracts included to promote general scalp health include Melaleuca Alternia Folia (Tea Tree Oil) and Equisetum Arvense Extract (Horsetail).

Herbal Extracts for general scalp health include Melaleuca Alternia Folia (Tea Tree Oil), Equisetum Arvense (Horsetail) Extract.

FSP The Clinical Trial

During 2014 a six month independent medically supervised trial was conducted to determine the efficacy of the FSP Hair Loss Program. The trial was conducted at the Knudsen Hair Transplantation Clinic in Sydney’s Double Bay, supervised by noted hair transplantation surgeon Dr. Russell Knusden. At the conclusion of the trial, which involved 30 male and female participants who were experiencing senescent hair loss, the following results were noted:

  • 67% of participants experienced a reduction or cessation of thinning
  • 42% experienced an increase in hair volume
  • Increases in hair volume ranged between 5.5% and 11%

FSP Innovative Patent

In 2011 the Australian Government’s Intellectual Property office granted Trichovedic’s FSP Hair Loss Program an Innovation Patent; a first for an Australian hair care company.

How To Use The FSP Hair Loss Program

The FSP prep Hair + Scalp Shampoo and Rinse are ideally used immediately prior to the application of FSP Intensive Scalp Serum.

After the hair has been shampooed with FSP Hair + Scalp Shampoo and rinsed, Hair + Scalp Rinse should be applied and vigorously massaged into the scalp and left for 2-5 minutes before rinsing out. The hair should then be lightly dried and FSP Intensive Scalp Serum sprayed directly onto the scalp where there are areas of thinning and vigorously massaged in and left in. The hair can then be styled in the usual manner. FSP Intensive Scalp Serum should be used every day and if not shampooing and conditioning it should be used morning or evening and left in.

The average application of FSP Intensive Scalp Serum is 8 sprays per day which means a 120ml bottle should last approximately 90 days.

How Long Before You See Results

As our hair grows approximately 1 cm per month it takes some time for visible results to be seen. Usually, a visible improvement is noticed/felt after around sixty days. The greatest improvement will usually be noticed after six months.

FOR OPTIMUM RESULTS IT IS ESSENTIAL TO USE FSP INTENSIVE SCALP SERUM ON A DAILY BASIS.

If not shampooing on a daily basis FSP Intensive Scalp Serum should still be applied daily, morning or evening, and left in. When using the FSP Program for the first time it is not unusual to experience a greater shedding of hair than normal for the first few days. This is due to the mechanical action of vigorous massage dislodging hair in the Transitional Phase (Catagen) prior to shedding and the Shedding Phase (Telogen) where the hair falls out.

CAUTION: The FSP Hair Loss Program contains a powerful combination of ingredients. Contact with eyes should be avoided and if contact occurs rinse the eyes immediately with water. If irritation persists consult a doctor. If any sort of allergic reaction occurs on the scalp, discontinue use immediately.
